Waterford selectmen to consider naming of Waterford road

Waterford — The Board of Selectmen is considering a change to the road sign on a Waterford street to reflect the correct name.

Residents of High Ridge Drive — or High Ridge Road, according to the sign — will have the opportunity to make their case for what the road should be called at a Jan. 5 public hearing, according to First Selectmen Daniel M. Steward.

The road was originally created as High Ridge Drive, but was mistakenly renamed High Ridge Road in a 1976 vote by the town's Representative Town Meeting, Steward said.

The road extends north from Rope Ferry Road near Mago Point.

Steward said the sign was edited to say High Ridge Road last year, and residents of the road have complained that they have had trouble receiving mail and packages because of the discrepancy.

"It's caused some angst for some," Steward said. "Ultimately this is more of a cleanup act of something that needs to get fixed."

Two residents' property deeds list both names as their address, he said.

The Board of Selectmen will vote on a final name after the public hearing, which is scheduled for 7 p.m. Jan. 5 in the Waterford Town Hall.

The change must also be approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission and the RTM.
