DEEP to hold public hearing on flounder, scup, sea bass plan

Old Lyme — The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s Marine Fisheries Division will host a public hearing at 7 p.m. on Jan. 5 about the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission's draft management plan for summer flounder, scup and black sea bass.

The hearing will take place at the DEEP Marine Headquarters Education Center, 333 Ferry Road.

The new plan was initiated to consider extending use of regional management approaches for the 2016 recreational summer flounder fishery, including an option that would allow for a Delaware Bay specific region, DEEP said in a news release.

The plan also includes options for extending use of ad-hoc regional management approaches for black sea bass recreational fisheries in 2016 and 2017.

If the plan is not approved for management, the current summer flounder regional management approach will remain in use in 2016.

Fishermen and other interested groups are encouraged to provide input either by attending the public hearings or providing written comment.

The plan, Draft Addendum XXVII, is available at: http://www.asmfc.org/files/PublicInput/DraftAddendumXXVII_PublicComment_Dec2015.pdf.

It can also be accessed at: www.asmfc.org under “Public Input.” Public comment will be accepted until 5 p.m. Jan. 21 and should be forwarded to: Kirby Rootes-Murdy, fishery management plan coordinator, 1050 N. Highland St., Suite 200 A-N, Arlington, Virginia 22201; or at: krootes-murdy@asmfc.org (Subject line: Draft Addendum XXVII).
