Snow, sleet to hit region Monday night

A cold front and some real winter weather could be headed toward the region Monday night.

Wet snow and sleet will likely fall in southeastern Connecticut by Monday evening, according to Gary Lessor, meteorologist with The Weather Center at Western Connecticut State University,

"Maybe, at worst case, a half inch before it changes to freezing rain,"Lessor said.

Temperatures will still be above normal, as they have been for the last few weeks, he said, but a ridge of warm weather over the Northeast will be collapsing Monday and bringing in cold air.

But area residents won't have to give up just yet on the warm temperatures.

"There's still not really any cold or heavy snow in the foreseeable future," he said.
