New London _ A Mitchell College dorm was briefly evacuated early Sunday morning after a fire in one of its rooms.

Firefighters arrived just before 4:30 a.m. and quickly put out the fire in a room in Saunders Hall on the college's New London campus, according to New London Battalion Chief Thomas Cursio.

The fire may have been started by a lit candle, Cursio said.

The dormitory was evacuated, but no injuries were reported, he said.
