Waterford — Dr. David Boisoneau and Dr. Ross Sanfilippo will be provide free oral, head and neck cancer screenings on April 18 at the L+M Cancer Center, 230 Waterford Parkway South.  

The screenings will take place between 5 and 7 p.m. Screenings are free, but appointments are limited. To schedule a screening, call (860) 271.4617.

Oral, head and neck cancer is the sixth most common cancer in the world, affecting more than 100,000 people per year in the United States, L+M said in a news release. 

Signs and symptoms could include lump or sore in mouth or throat, hoarseness or change in voice, swallowing problems and bleeding in the nose, mouth or throat.

Risk factors include tobacco use, alcohol and HPV, a sexually transmitted infection with human papillomavirus.
