    Charles St. Pierre of Norwich and Ed Semedo of Jewett City, not shown, spend time Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017 at the Salvation Army in New London touching up the paint on red kettle stands in preparation for the start of the Red Kettle fundraising campaign that will begin on Nov. 20. The New London Salvation Army has 23 red kettles that will be placed with bell ringers in 17 locations and also have available 20 unmanned boxes that can be placed in restaurants or stores. The kettles will be out through December 24. The funds raised through the red kettles is 60-70 percent of the New London Salvation Army budget and goes to all the programs they provide such as, the emergency family assistance program that provides heat, rent, food and clothing assistance, financial counseling, emotional/spiritual counseling, food pantry and youth programs.
