Norwich assessor to head northeast regional association

Norwich — City Assessor Donna Ralston was elected president of the Northeast Regional Association of Assessing Officers at the recent annual conference in Ocean City, Md.

The association comprises 12 northeast states from Maine to Washington, D.C., and six Canadian provinces, and provides training and educational opportunities for assessing officials.

As president, Ralston’s duties will include organizing and hosting the annual conference, which will be hosted by the state of Connecticut in May 2017 at the Mystic Hilton.

Ralston began her career as a tax assessor in June of 1981 in the town of Lisbon.

She also worked as the assessor in Windham from 1985 to 1988, East Hampton from 1988 to 2009 and came to Norwich in 2009.

She has been an active member of the Connecticut Association of Assessing Officers since 1981, serving as secretary and vice president in the 1990s.

She has been chairwoman of the association’s Motor Vehicle Committee since 1987 and was named Assessor of the Year in 1993 and 2010.

“I am looking forward to assisting all assessors in pursuit of education, but in particular those new in the field looking for personal growth, new knowledge and career advancement,” Ralston said in a news release announcing her election.
