Smoking ban begins outside Norwich City Hall

Norwich — The smoking ban at the entrances of City Hall will begin Wednesday outside all entrances, building supervisor Robert Sewart said.

The City Council approved a resolution July 5 to bring City Hall into compliance with a state statute that prohibits smoking within 25 feet of buildings leased by the state.

About a third of City Hall is occupied by state agencies.

Sewart said ashtrays will be removed and signs declaring “No Smoking Zone” will be posted outside the building entrances.

One ashtray will be placed across Union Street at the Southeast Area Transit bus stop shelter.

Sewart said he waited for the signs to be delivered before removing ashtrays.
