    East Lyme town meeting Wednesday

East Lyme — A special town meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Town Hall to consider three items.

Residents will first vote on a $969,436 proposal for LED street lights, which would be financed over seven years.

The proposal calls for the town to purchase streetlights, which it currently rents, and contract with Tanko Lighting of San Francisco to retrofit them with LED lights.

During the initial seven years, the town would save about $10,000 each year compared to what it currently spends. The town would also receive a one-time rebate of about $135,000, according to a town document on the proposal.

After the first seven years, at which time the initial cost will have been paid off, the savings will increase to more than $160,000 a year, according to the proposal.

Residents will next vote on accepting $60,000 in donations from the East Lyme Public Trust Foundation, Niantic Rotary Club, and Niantic Lions Club for a proposed bandshell at McCook Point Park in Niantic.

The last item on the agenda is to take a vote on appropriating $480,000 for a replacement fire truck for the Flanders Fire Department.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
