Groton woman arrested on prostitution charges in connection with massage therapy business

Groton — A Groton woman was arrested Tuesday on charges of prostitution and practicing massage therapy without a license in connection with a business on Thames Street, according to a Groton City Police Department news release.

Sumei Hou, 35, of 20 Midway Oval was charged after Groton City police detectives and members of the Regional Community Enhancement Task Force executed a search and seizure warrant at Thames Street Massage Therapy, 256 Thames St.

Hou was held on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.

The warrants were issued by New London Superior Court after a monthlong investigation of a citizen complaint about prostitution at the business, the news release said.

“Evidence obtained during the investigation and presented for judicial review, established probable cause that Hou engaged in sexual conduct with patrons for a predetermined amount of cash as a normal course of business,” the release said.

Police also learned that Hou was practicing massage therapy without a state license and was the sole employee of the business, the release said.
