Norwich city manager to announce plans for filling police chief position Thursday

Norwich — City Manager John Salomone will hold a news conference at 3 p.m. Thursday to make an announcement “concerning the appointment of the City of Norwich police chief,” not specifying whether he will call for a formal search or appoint acting Chief Patrick Daley to the position.

Daley, 47, who had served as deputy chief, was sworn in as acting chief on July 1, when former Chief Louis Fusaro retired.

Daley, a 1986 Norwich Free Academy graduate and 1990 graduate of Eastern Connecticut State University, joined the Norwich Police Department in 1993.

Salomone started his position as city manager in February. When he named Daley as acting chief, he said he needed time to decide whether to conduct a full search for Fusaro's successor.
