Estuary Transit District proposes bus fare increase

The Estuary Transit District announced Thursday that it is proposing a fare increase on all 9 Town Transit services to help offset a cut in state transit funding.

Under the proposal, the cash fare on all routes would increase from $1.50 to $1.75. Trips on Dial-A-Ride and off-route would increase from $3 to $3.50. Multi-ride tickets and monthly passes would increase to $15.75 and $57, respectively.

The fare proposal includes the agency’s first disabled fare, according to a news release. It would provide a discounted rate of $0.85 to persons with disabilities.

A public hearing will be held from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sept. 29 in the first-floor conference room of Old Saybrook Town Hall, 302 Main St.

Written comments may be submitted until Oct. 14 to Estuary Transit District, 17 Industrial Park Road, Suite 6, Centerbrook, CT 06409.

ETD said in the news release that the increase is needed to "prevent service reduction following a statewide cut by the state to transit budgets."

A full listing of the new fare schedule is available at www.9towntransit.com/fares or by calling 9 Town Transit at (860) 510-0429.

The 9 Town Transit provides public transportation in Chester, Clinton, Deep River, Durham, Essex, East Haddam, Haddam, Killingworth, Lyme, Old Lyme, Old Saybrook and Westbrook, with connections to New Haven, New London and Middlesex areas, according to its website.
