Leffingwell Museum to host Benedict Arnold program Saturday

Norwich — Benedict Arnold will return to the Leffingwell House Museum on Saturday as a re-enactor will portray Norwich's infamous native son in an annual program linked with Flock Theatre's delivery of the “heroic leg” of the traitor to Norwich Mayor Deberey Hinchey.

Kevin Titus, a Benedict Arnold re-enactor, will portray Arnold from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Leffingwell House Museum, 348 Washington St., Norwich.

At 1 p.m. Saturday, members of Flock Theatre, which annually burns Arnold's likeness in effigy, will present Hinchey with the unburnt leg of the effigy, representing Arnold's leg that was wounded at the Battle of Saratoga.

Activities at the museum include musketry and drilling throughout the day and Arnold memorabilia on display.

Tours of the house, which dates from 1675 and contains multiple architectural changes, also will be available.

Admission to the museum program is $5.

Prior to the Leffingwell museum program, beginning at 10 a.m., the Norwich Historical Society will host a free walking tour along the “Benedict Arnold Trail.” The walking tour will begin at the Leffingwell House Museum.
