Talk about children and anxiety offered at Westerly Hospital

Westerly — The Westerly Hospital will host a discussion titled “Raising Resilient Children in the Age of Anxiety” from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 11 in the hospital’s Henry J. Nardone Conference Center.

The program, which is being presented in honor of World Mental Health Day, Oct. 10, is being offered in partnership with the Westerly Public School district and the Washington County Coalition for Children.

Ellen Flannery Schroeder, clinician at the New England Center for Anxiety in Westerly, professor of clinical psychology at the University of Rhode Island and member of the Washington County Coalition for Children, will give the presentation.

She will discuss how parents can identify anxiety and related difficulties in children, avoid common parenting practices that maintain or worsen anxiety, use research-supported parenting strategies to lessen both the immediate and long-term impacts of anxiety and related distress, and support children's independent coping to manage difficult situations.

Admission is free. For more information, visit www.westerlyhospital.org.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
