Salem transfer station to hold biannual "Amnesty Day"

Salem — The municipal transfer station's biannual bulky waste "Amnesty Day" will be held Oct. 8, 9 and 12 and allow residents to dispose of old furniture and other large items free of charge.

Residents are normally charged $10 for each item or $5 for chairs.

Appliances containing CFCs and construction or demolition materials are exempt from Amnesty Day. Mattresses are now recycled and can be brought to the transfer station any Saturday, Sunday or Wednesday free of charge.

"Amnesty Days" are held in April and October every year.
