DOT announces alternating one-way traffic, temporary traffic signal on Route 1 over Pattagansett River

The state Department of Transportation has announced it will alternate one-way traffic controlled by a temporary traffic signal on Route 1 over Pattagansett River in East Lyme.

The temporary configuration is necessary to help with construction activities on the bridge, and is expected to be in place on Friday, Oct. 28, according to a news release.

The project consists of a complete bridge structure replacement, drainage improvements and full-depth roadway reconstruction.

The alternating one-way traffic will allow one lane on the bridge to remain open during the work.

DOT asks drivers to be cautious and leave a safe traveling distance between their vehicle and the vehicle ahead of them.

The project was awarded to D& V Morin Construction Co., at a cost of $1,991,519, on June 24 and is scheduled to be completed Nov. 14, 2017.
