New London — Police arrested a man after they said they found 5.5 pounds of marijuana in his possession near the intersection of Montauk and Denison avenues Friday morning.

Ateeq Shafiq, 28, of 64 Scotch Cap Road, unit 101, Waterford, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of marijuana with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school and possession of drug parapheralia.

He was being held on a $150,000 cash surety bond.
