    New London police arrest man in connection with Thanksgiving assault

    New London — Police arrested a New London man Monday in a connection with an assault last Thursday that left a 38-year-old man seriously injured in a hallway of an apartment building at 127 Hempstead St.

    Police charged Edgar Sanchez-Valencia, also called "Panama," 44, of 127 Hempstead St., Apt. 407, with second-degree assault.

    Police said they had responded at around 3:34 a.m. last Thursday to a reported assault on the fourth floor of 127 Hempstead St. They found an unconscious man on the floor who was suffering from serious facial and head injuries.

    The injured man, whom police identified as Marlon Beasley, of 127 Hempstead St., Apt. 311, was transported to L+M Hospital and then to Yale-New Haven Hospital, according to police.

    Police detectives had canvassed the building. Police said that pursuant to the investigation by the Investigative Services Division, "tremendous community assistance and cooperation was received."

    Sanchez-Valencia is being held on a $200,000 cash surety bond. if he does not post bond, he will be arraigned in New London Court on Tuesday.

    Police said anyone with information can contact the detective division at (860) 447-1481 or anonymous information can be submitted via the New London Tips 411 system.

    Police said the investigation is ongoing.
