Hair cuts for cause in East Lyme
East Lyme — Students at East Lyme High School get their hair cut to donate to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths hair drive, which creates wigs for chemotherapy patients, on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016.
The effort, led by junior Hannah Scheyder is part of the school's week of charitable giving that culminates on Friday with the Holiday Extravaganza. Scheyder donated hair two years ago and decided this year to recruit her classmates as part of the week. Thirteen students signed up in advance and by the time the school's lunch period was over, more than 20 had donated and by the end of the day more than 50 had donated.
Three stylists from two local salons; Hair Trendz and Posh, volunteered their time to do the cutting and provided $25 gift certificates for the donors to put the finishing touches on their quick cuts.
