State, chamber announce public-private partnership to promote Greater Mystic

The state Office of Tourism and the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut have launched an initiative to promote the Greater Mystic area as part of the “Connecticut: Still Revolutionary” marketing campaign.

Several private partners have invested a total of $100,000 in the effort, which aims to increase awareness of Greater Mystic attractions, drive traffic to the Mystic section of the state’s tourism website, www.CTvisit.com, and generate business leads.

“The Greater Mystic area is a major driver of Connecticut’s tourism industry, and we are thrilled that the private sector in the region has recognized the impact of the Connecticut: Still Revolutionary campaign by co-investing with us to extend our statewide marketing efforts,” Tim Sullivan, deputy commissioner of the state Department of Economic and Community Development, said in a statement. “This public-private partnership will leverage significant state investment under Governor Malloy’s leadership to help attract more visitors to this key market.”

“This new initiative is a great example of what can be accomplished through strong partnerships,” added Randy Fiveash, director of the Office of Tourism. “We are always open to new avenues and ideas that will help grow Connecticut’s $14.7 billion tourism industry, and we look forward to working with all of those involved in eastern Connecticut.”

State Sen. Paul Formica, R-East Lyme, and state Rep. Diana Urban, D-North Stonington, co-chairmen of the legislature’s tourism caucus, hailed the new initiative.

“This public-private partnership will make great use of limited state resources to effectively and efficiently promote eastern Connecticut as a wonderful place to visit,” Formica said. “I extend my gratitude to all involved.”

Participating tourism attractions will continue to be featured alongside more than 100 attractions in the statewide tourism marketing campaign, which kicks off for the spring/summer season in April and runs through August. In addition, new content specific to the Mystic area will be developed for CTvisit.com and featured prominently through social and paid media.

The Office of Tourism will conduct a marketing outreach meeting at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 4 at the Mystic Marriott Hotel & Spa in Groton.
