Stonington EDC to hold forum on ways to preserve farmland

Stonington -- The Economic Development Commission will hold an informational session on June 19 at 7 p.m. at the La Grua Center in the borough about ways for property owners to keep their land involved in agriculture.

The session is in response to questions generated at a farm forum held by the commission in February.

Representatives from the Avalonia Land Trust, Connecticut Farmland Trust and town planing staff will describe their programs and answer questions on subjects such as ways to preserve land for agriculture, how to extract equity from the land, obtaining land for new agricultural operations, recent zoning changes that may improve profitability of agricultural operations and grants and programs available for improvement and start-up of agricultural operations, including small farms.

Admission is free and light refreshments will be served.

For more information or questions contact EDC members Ward Smith at (860) 235-9180 or Danielle Chesebrough at (860) 912-0380.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
