    Lyme first selectman to resign

Lyme — The town's longtime first selectman plans to resign on Monday, and the town's two selectmen will decide during Monday's Board of Selectmen meeting who will fill the remainder of his term, which ends in November.

Ralph F. Eno Jr., who has been the town's first selectman for the past decade, as well as from 1991 to 2001, and has served on the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Board of Finance, had said that this current term would be his last one.

He plans to retire to Maine with his wife. He said the July resignation is timed for the board to transition to the new fiscal year and build some continuity before the November municipal elections.

Eno told The Day in 2015 that Lyme was “a very special place” but that it was time for retirement. He said he would focus his last term on advocacy for small towns and the completion of the conversion of the town's landfill into a transfer station. During a retirement party at Ashlawn Farm last Sunday, the transfer station was named in his honor.

Selectman Steven E. Mattson said the town will follow the state's prescribed process for filling a vacancy on the Board of Selectmen at Monday's meeting, which requires the remaining selectmen to nominate a replacement for the unfinished portion of the elected term and have that nomination approved.

He said the selectmen will discuss and decide who will be appointed at the meeting.

The Democratic Town Committee and Republican Town Committee are slated to hold caucuses in July to nominate candidates for the November municipal elections.
