    Commercial fishing expert to speak in Stonington July 27

    Stonington -- The Stonington Economic Development Commission is sponsoring a talk by commercial fishing expert Meghan Lapp on July 27 at 7 p.m. at the LaGrua Center in the borough.

    Her talk, titled “Sea to Table: Bringing the Bounty of the Sea to You,” will discuss how local harvesters provide their communities with fresh seafood, navigate fishery regulations and science, and what species are fresh and available for purchase locally. Admission is free.

    The talk comes just before the annual Blessing of the Fleet celebration on July 30.

    Lapp, of Narragansett, R.I., serves on the board of the Center for Sustainable Fisheries in New Bedford, Mass., and is an industry representative for Seafreeze, LTD, in Point Judith, R.I.

    She is a graduate of Queens University in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and holds a master’s degree in legal science.
