Groton is a breakfast lover’s dream come true. So when Rick Koster of The Day wrote about the new owners of Norm’s Diner, I had to see if he was right.

Norm’s is open daily from 5 a.m. until 2 p.m. One day I was on my way from Middletown and had just an hour before I had another appointment in New London. I wanted nothing more than a tuna sandwich with a slice of tomato and lettuce. Rick had said the fries were superb. He was right.

I had breakfast there. All I wanted was a tomato and bacon omelet and rye bread (their rye is really good). Potatoes, she asked, adding that they had “shredded potatoes.” Could it be? Only The Yolk in New London had “shredded potatoes.” But Norm’s does, indeed. As I read Tom Perrotta’s new novel, drank my coffee and finished breakfast, I thought I was one lucky lady.
