State's unemployment rate dips to 5.1 percent

While Connecticut's unemployment rate has dropped to just above the national average of 5 percent, locally, New London is still well above that at 7.1 percent. The city has the fourth worst rate behind Hartford, Waterbury and Bridgeport.
We looked at monthly data for towns in southeastern Connecticut. In our region, Lyme has the lowest rate at 3.5 percent, while Stonington has seen the sharpest decline in the last three months after an uptick in July.
