Connecticut Marine vet receives van from Noank nonprofit with funding from Musician Joe Walsh
The nonprofit Work Vessels for Vets has awarded U.S. Marine Corps Forces Reserve Cpl. Gulaid Ismail a refurbished Step van for use with his business.
Ismail served in Fallujah, Iraq with the Plainfield, CT Marine Reserve Unit in 2005-06. When he returned, he attended the Entrepreneurial Bootcamp for Returning Disabled Veterans at the University of Connecticut, devised a business plan and launched "Dribble Babies" boutique infant wear featuring clothing sewn by local seamstresses. With a store in New Britain, the plan called for forgoing mobile to take their infant clothing line to fairs, shows and "Made in Connecticut" events.
Work Vessels for Vets was one of only 10 small veterans' charities to benefit from funds raised from musician Joe Walsh's, founder of The Eagles, first VETS AID Concert, held in the Washington D.C., area in September. Work Vessels for Vets used the money awarded from the concert to purchase and rehab the Step van for Ismail. Walsh met Ismail and his wife on Friday at the Vets Rock event being held at Mohegan Sun.
