Taftville American Legion, VFW posts seek assistance in Memorial Day ceremony

Taftville — The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2212 and the American Legion Post 104 will hold a ceremony in honor of those who sacrificed their lives for freedom at Memorial Park in Taftville.

Each year the Memorial Day ceremony honors a specific Taftville resident who lost his life during wartime. This year's honored veteran is Navy Chief Motor Machinist's Mate Leo Joseph Isaie Bedard, a Taftville resident who died on the USS Grunion (SS 216) in July 1942. Bedard was born in Fitchburg, Mass., on Dec. 23, 1907.

He was the son of Isaie Bedard and Celina Chabot. Bedard left behind his wife, Lillian, and children Ron and Therese.

The Memorial Day Committee requests anyone with information regarding Bedard or his family contact Dennis Baptiste at (860) 908-2104.

This year's Memorial Day ceremony will take place at Memorial Park in Taftville on May 30. The ceremony starts promptly at 10 a.m.
