U.S. Coast Guard closes 2 boat stations for the season

Providence — The U.S. Coast Guard has closed two seasonal boat stations.

The Coast Guard says its stations in Scituate, Mass. and Block Island, R.I., closed Friday for the end of the summer boating season.

It says the stations normally close during the offseason because there are fewer recreational boats.

The Coast Guard says it plans to reopen both seasonal stations for Memorial Day next year.

The crews from the seasonal stations will go back to their regular stations in Hull, Massachusetts, and Point Judith, Rhode Island.

The year-round stations will respond to emergencies in the areas that were covered by the seasonal stations.
