Police respond to false report of armed man at Norwich school

Norwich — City police said they are investigating a false report earlier today that there was an armed person at the Stanton Elementary School.

Police officers said they quickly determined the call at 11:46 a.m. was a false report. They searched the elementary school at 386 New London Turnpike and confirmed there was no threat.

Police said all students and faculty “were safe and unharmed during the entire incident.”

Norwich Superintendent of Schools Abby Dolliver said there was a 35-minute lockdown and full police presence at the school during the incident.

“They had to make sure all was safe and they did,” said Dolliver.

Afterwards, administrators went to each room to speak with the students, addressed the staff and called parents. The students had a regularly scheduled early dismissal.

City police are investigating the report and ask anyone with information regarding the case to call the Norwich Police Department at (860) 886-5561 or call the anonymous tip line at (860) 886-5561, ext. 500.
