Firefighters extinguish Groton apartment fire

Groton — Firefighters extinguished a fire in an apartment at 138 Branford Ave., part of Branford Manor.
Groton City firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the second-floor windows of the apartment, said Groton City Fire Captain Robert Tompkins.
The fire was contained to the second floor of the apartment, he said. The first floor sustained some water damage. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Groton City was joined by firefighters from Old Mystic and Poquonnock Bridge departments.
