Ledyard man sentenced to two years for possession of child pornography

A Ledyard man was sentenced Wednesday in New London Superior Court to two years in prison for possession of child pornography.

James M. Demay, 28, formerly of Groton, was sentenced to five years in prison, suspended after two years served, followed by 10 years of probation. While on probation, Demay will have to register as a sex offender.

The state police Computer Crimes Unit began an investigation of Demay in October 2013 after receiving information about child pornography being shared over the internet. Police said the activity was traced back to Demay’s apartment at 25 Broad Street Ext., Groton.

In January 2014, the Computer Crimes Unit, with the assistance of Groton City police, searched the apartment. Confronted at his job at the Electric Boat visitor center in New London, Demay admitted he had been viewing child pornography for five years, according to a court document.

He said he knew it was wrong and that he never had sexual contact with a minor. Police examined his computer and found multiple files depicting young girls engaged in sexually explicit activity.

Demay declined to speak at his sentencing.

While on probation, he is not to use any computers, he is to have no contact with minors and not view any pornography.
