Man detains suspected thief with gun in Willimantic

Willimantic – A man used a legally-owned gun Monday to detain a would-be burglar who police said was attempting to steal from a vehicle, police said.
Police said they responded to the area of 300 Walnut St. to find a resident detaining the suspect with handgun.
Police charged the suspected thief, 39-year-old Tye Wiegel of Willimantic, with criminal attempt to commit sixth-degree larceny and second-degree breach of peace.
Wiegel was held in lieu of a $5,000 bond and due to appear Tuesday in Danielson Superior Court.
