Norwich doctor arraigned in sexual assault case

A doctor accused of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old patient March 30 at the Concentra Urgent Care clinic in Norwich was arraigned Thursday in Superior Court in Norwich.

Manoj K. Saxena, 44, of Mansfield has been free on a $100,000 bond since Norwich police charged him May 14 with second-degree sexual assault and fourth-degree sexual assault. He was arraigned before Judge Timothy D. Bates, who transferred the case to the New London court where major crimes are tried. His next court date is June 16.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, the alleged victim, who works for the City of Norwich, went to the clinic for treatment after an autistic child bit her on the forearm. While treating her, Saxena allegedly asked her if she had ever had a breast exam or pelvic exam and made inappropriate comments about her anatomy.

Without giving her a gown or leaving the room while she removed her clothing, he conducted both exams without a nurse in the room. The alleged victim said Saxena told her she was "inspiring" and hugged her and kissed her on the forehead at the end of the exam.

According to the affidavit, the City of Norwich uses Concentra Urgent Care as a treatment facility for work-related injuries. The clinic is located at 10 Connecticut Ave.
