New London police investigate untimely death at Ocean Beach Park
New London — Police are investigating this morning what appears to be an untimely death at Ocean Beach Park.
Deputy Police Chief Peter Reichard said the body of a male was found near the waterline on the beach at about 5:45 a.m.
Police used yellow tape to cordon off the section of the beach where the body was found. Detectives stood next to the body, which was covered at the time.
A lifeguard also kept spectators away from the cordoned section of the beach.
The park remained open to the public while police conducted their investigation.
Reichard said the investigation is ongoing and the cause of death is not known. The man was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
His name is being withheld, pending notification of his family.
