Waterford teacher arraigned on prescripton drug charges

Waterford science teacher Tracilynn Bosco, who has been on administrative leave from the Clark Lane Middle School while undergoing drug treatment, was arraigned Friday in New London Superior Court on charges that she visited multiple doctors and altered prescriptions in order to obtain hundreds of tablets of the stimulant Adderall.

Bosco, 44, turned herself in to Waterford police Friday morning knowing they had an arrest warrant charging her with doctor shopping and three counts of altering a prescription. She was held in lieu of $40,000 bond until her noon arraignment before Judge Kevin P. McMahon. She stood before the judge with an attorney from the Stevens, Harris, Guernsey & Quilliam law firm at her side.

Bail Commissioner Timothy Gilman said Bosco has been on administrative leave from the school district and had recently completed 90 days of inpatient treatment at a facility in Mexico. She has no prior criminal record.

The judge, noting Bosco already had completed the program required of first-time offenders, released her on a written promise to return to court on July 7. At that time, she is expected to apply for the accelerated rehabilitation program, which would enable her to have the charges dismissed if she abides by certain conditions.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Waterford police began investigating in February after receiving a complaint from Agent Michelle Sylvestre of the state Department of Consumer Protection's drug control division.

Sylvester alleged that Bosco had obtained more than 1,500 tablets of Adderall using prescriptions obtained from several different doctors and filled by nine different pharmacies between August 2013 and January 2015.

Forty-nine of the prescriptions were obtained between January 2014 and January 2015, and Bosco altered some of the prescriptions by increasing the dosages and quantity of pills, according to the warrant.
