Groton City police arrest 5 teens accused of burglarizing cars

Groton — City police arrested five juveniles early this morning who they said were caught in the act of burglarizing vehicles in the area of School Street.

Police said at about 2:15 a.m. they responded to School Street for a report of youths on mountain bikes who were breaking into cars.

Police said when they arrived at the scene, they caught the teens — ranging in ages from 13 to 16 — in the act.

A brief foot pursuit took place, and police were able to apprehend all of the suspects who come from New London and Norwich.

Police said the juveniles wore masks, bandanas and hooded sweatshirt to conceal their identities.

The unidentified juveniles were each charged with possession of burglary tools, sixth-degree larceny and interfering with police.

They were released into the custody of their parents and are scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call police at (860) 445-2451 and reference case number 15-9408-AR.
