Stonington police to hold free child car seat check Sept. 10

Stonington — The police department will conduct a free child safety seat checkpoint on Thursday, Sept. 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the police department.

Certified child passenger safety technicians will be available to complete child seat installations and answer questions regarding current laws, child safety concerns and seat recalls.

In announcing the event, police pointed out that motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children.

“Why? In many cases, children are either not properly buckled into their safety seats or parents don’t realize that a booster seat is vital to ensuring children fit safely in their vehicle’s seat belt,” stated the department, which urged parents not to take a chance and get their child’s safety seat inspected.
