Man charged in one-punch Mystic knockout
Mystic — A Taftville man was arrested early Wednesday morning after Stonington police say he knocked out a co-worker with one punch.
Police said the incident occurred at 6:32 a.m. in front of Red 36 restaurant on Washington Street as the two men, who were employed by a contractor working at the restaurant, arrived for their shift.
The victim was taken by Stonington Ambulance to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for treatment of facial and head injuries.
Police charged Tyson P. Karhu, 37, of 24 South 4th St., Taftville, with second-degree assault.
He posted a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on Nov. 20.
Police said Karhu walked up to the man and punched him in the face with no warning, rendering him unconscious. Police said there had been a previous dispute between the two men.
Police said the assault was captured by restaurant surveillance video, and that Karhu left the scene after the incident.
Police attempted to reach him by cellphone and Karhu eventually called back, and agreed to come back to Stonington and turn himself in to face charges.
