New London — A motor vehicle accident at Montauk Avenue and Fair Harbour Place Monday afternoon caused police to divert traffic for about half an hour.

Police said they were sending vehicles down Bellevue Place as a detour and that only the Ocean Avenue entrance to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital was open.

Emergency crews extricated one person from a vehicle as a result of the crash, according to police. They said the extrication was necessary because the occupant couldn't open his or her door, not because of injuries.

According to the New London firefighters union, IAFF Local 1522, the wreck occurred just before 3:40 p.m. and the person was extricated at about 3:55 p.m.
