    Fire displaces North Stonington family

North Stonington — A chimney fire in a Norwich-Westerly Road home Wednesday night displaced four people and caused moderate damage to the home, a fire official said Thursday.

North Stonington Volunteer Fire Company Fire Chief Charles Steinhart V said the fire at 460 Norwich-Westerly Road was reported just after 9 p.m. He said the fire appeared to have started in the home's wood stove.

Steinhart said it took firefighters 45 minutes to put out the blaze. The fire damaged the inside of the house, he said.

Two adults and two children were in the home at the time of the fire and escaped uninjured.

Firefighters also rescued a pet cat and a turtle from the house.

The American Red Cross said Thursday they were assisting the family with their immediate needs, personal care items and with information to help with cleaning up from the fire.
