I-95 north reopened in Old Lyme after car collides with dump truck

Old Lyme — Interstate 95 north was reopened around 1:30 p.m. after a car collided with a dump truck near Exit 71 just before noon Tuesday, according to state police and the state Department of Transportation.

For about an hour, both lanes of the northbound side of the highway were closed.

The accident occurred within a stretch that's been under construction for months, although police said the construction zone wasn't active at the time of the accident.

Police said just after noon that it wasn't clear whether the accident occurred on the highway or the ramp, and that no information regarding injuries was available.

Photos of the accident show a silver Ford four-door smashed into the back left side of the dump truck mere feet from Exit 71.

According to the state Department of Transportation, the accident caused more than 5 miles of congestion.
