North Stonington — A 50-year-old New London man died Sunday morning after his 14-foot canoe capsized while fishing with his son at Lake of Isles, according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

The son made it to shore without injuries while the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The DEEP said was alerted to the incident around 7:30 a.m. after state police received a 911 call. The man’s body was recovered around 8:45 a.m.

DEEP police are investigating. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of his family.
