    Groton Town police hire two officers

    Groton — Town police on Thursday announced that two eastern Connecticut residents have become the department's newest officers.

    Officer Ryan Barile, 21, of Moosup is a 2013 graduate of Plainfield High School and an active member of the Moosup Volunteer Fire Department.

    Officer Kaitlyn Gooslin, 23, of Voluntown is a 2010 graduate of Norwich Free Academy.

    According to police, the two new officers passed physical agility tests, written examinations, oral boards, psychological and physical evaluations, polygraph examinations and extensive background investigations to be selected from a "vast field of applicants."

    Barile and Gooslin, who officially joined the department on June 22, will undergo 26 weeks of training with the 354th POSTC Basic Recruit Training Class starting on July 1.

    From there, they'll begin the department's 16-week field training program.
