According to a news release, the department received a call that someone collapsed on the boardwalk and was not breathing.

Responding personnel determined on scene the man appeared to have been in cardiac arrest. They used an automatic external defibrillator, which the police department carries in every patrol vehicle, re-established a pulse and breathing before the man was transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London.
