UPDATED: Woman, detective injured in two-car crash in Waterford

Waterford — Great Neck Road briefly was closed following a two-car crash Friday afternoon.

The road was closed from Dimmock Road to the vicinity of the entrance to Eugene O'Neill Memorial Theatre Center, according to police.

An officer on scene said one of the involved vehicles was a police cruiser. Lt. Timothy Silva confirmed Friday night that the accident involved a Waterford police detective.

Det. John Davis was traveling on Great Neck Road about 1:20 p.m. Friday when his cruiser collided with a car being driven in the opposite direction by Diane Schreier-Perkins, Silva said.

He said both the detective and Schreier-Perkins were transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

Silva said fault had not yet been determined Friday night and the accident still was under investigation.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call the department at (860) 442-9451 and ask for the shift supervisor.
