State prison staff nab woman trying to escape from York in Niantic

East Lyme — York Correctional Institution in Niantic remained in lockdown Thursday evening following an escape attempt by an inmate who tried to scale a perimeter fence.

The woman, identified as 25-year-old Nicole Godin of Watertown, never made it over the fence, according to a statement from the state Department of Correction’s Office of Public Information.

She was caught by DOC staff.

The incident occurred at 2:20 p.m. and emergency protocols, which included a lockdown and contact with state police, were implemented.

There were no reported injuries to staff or Godin.

Godin has been in custody at York since July 21 on a $20,000 bond. She has numerous pending charges in Waterbury Superior Court that include criminal violation of a protective order, attempted third-degree robbery, sixth-degree larceny and failure to appear in court, according to court records.

Officials said an investigation is ongoing and more criminal charges are likely.
