    Car strikes, kills pedestrian in Old Saybrook

    Old Saybrook — One person is dead after a car that was being driven south on Maple Avenue struck him or her Tuesday night, police said.

    Police, who have not identified either party involved, said the car hit the pedestrian around 8:11 p.m. near Cambridge Court West.

    The operator of the vehicle remained on scene, police said.

    Police, fire and ambulance personnel took "extensive" pre-hospital emergency care measures, but the person eventually was pronounced dead at Middlesex Medical Center - Shoreline, police said.

    Late Tuesday night, police were interviewing witnesses and working to reconstruct the accident.

    The crash, which police said didn't cause any other injuries, remains under investigation.
