Mashantucket — Two people suffered gunshot wounds early Saturday morning in a shooting during a party at a private home on Shewville Road on the Mashantucket-Pequot reservation, the state Police Eastern District Major Squad reported Saturday.

Police said the investigation showed that the shooter, an unidentified male, fired one round of a semi-automatic weapon in the crowded basement party, and the bullet went through the left hand of a 24-year-old female and into the right shoulder of a 21-year-old male.

Police have not identified the victims or the shooter.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the state police investigating officer Det. Randy Silvestri at (860) 848-6566.

The investigation began when state police were called to the William W. Backus Hospital about 2:30 a.m. Saturday after the two victims walked into the Emergency Department suffering from gunshot wounds.

Neither of the victims was considered to have life-threatening injuries.

Police said witnesses described a large party in the basement of the house which resulted in a disturbance between partygoers.
