Man charged with crashing into four cars in New London

New London — A man ignored police and struck four cars near Connecticut Avenue before he was arrested early Saturday morning, police said.

Police responded about 2:02 a.m. to a motor vehicle accident at Connecticut and Garfield Avenues and said they found Antonio Ajpop-Cor, 22, of 225 Broad St., had struck a vehicle and fled the scene, striking two more parked vehicles as he headed toward Cedar Grove Avenue. No one was injured.

Ajpop-Cor drove onto Broad Street, Ledyard Street and Cedar Grove Avenue, followed by police, crashed into a fourth parked car and decided to stop at Connecticut Avenue, where he was arrested, police said.

He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, engaging an officer in pursuit, reckless driving, failure to drive right, evading responsibility, operating without a license and failure to carry insurance. He was being held on a $50,000 bond and an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer, police said.
