Providence trio charged with stealing tires and wheels in Mystic

Stonington — A man and two women from Providence were arrested early Saturday morning after police say they stole wheels and tires from vehicles at hotels in Mystic and the Valenti Auto Mall.

Josue Calderon, 28, was charged with second-degree larceny, three counts of simple trespass, first-degree criminal mischief, interfering with a police officer, criminal attempt to commit fourth-degree larceny, improper use of markers, possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia for less than a half-ounce of marijuana. He was held on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on Monday.

Noemi Pizzaro, 26, was charged with fourth-degree larceny, criminal attempt to commit fourth-degree larceny, breach of peace and simple trespass. She was held on a $10,000 bond.

Eucatherine Ruiz-Veras, 24, was charged with simple trespass, two counts of fourth-degree larceny, and breach of peace. She was released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 28.

Police said they initially received a complaint from the Hilton Hotel about the theft of wheels and tires. Officers then located a white van at the rear of the nearby Residence Inn and saw a collection of wheels and tires. A police officer was able to detain Pizzaro and Ruiz-Veras, but Calderon ran into the nearby woods.

He was later apprehended with the assistance of Groton Town police, a state police K9 team and the Old Mystic fire department.

Police said their investigation revealed the trio was in possession of stolen tires and wheels and the officers that spotted the three saw Calderon taking wheels off a vehicle. The investigation also revealed they had stolen tires and wheels from three vehicles at the Valenti Auto Mall.
